Solid wood floor installation precautions

The installation of solid wood flooring is a meticulous and important process, with the following aspects needing attention during the installation:

### Preliminary Preparations

1. **Ground Preparation**:

   * The ground should be flat, dry, and clean, free of impurities such as dust and oil.
   * Moisture protection of the ground is crucial, which can be achieved using moisture-proof cloth or applying moisture-proof paint.

2. **Installation of Joists**:

   * The joists should be made of dry, strong wood such as larch or lauan, with a moisture content close to that of the flooring.
   * The joists should be flat and sturdy, with a spacing not exceeding 40 centimeters.
   * A moisture-proof membrane should be placed between the joists, and they should be fixed using expansion bolts, Maxi-Nails, or other fasteners, avoiding the use of cement for reinforcement.
   * A layer of moisture-proof film can be laid on top of the joists to further isolate moisture.

3. **Flooring Adaptation**:

   * Before installation, the flooring should be unpacked and stacked at the installation site for 1-2 days to adapt to the environment, avoiding expansion or deformation after installation.

### Installation Process

1. **Flooring Layout**:

   * The flooring should be laid starting from one corner of the room, with each piece laid flat and securely.
   * The flooring pieces should not be assembled too tightly, leaving enough expansion gaps (typically 0.5-1.2 centimeters) to avoid expansion or contraction due to temperature and humidity changes.
   * Expansion gaps of 8-12 millimeters should also be left between the flooring and walls, pipes, and other interfaces.

2. **Fixation Method**:

   * The flooring is usually fixed using special flooring nails at a certain angle onto the wooden joists.
   * Avoid using water-based glue or white glue, as these contain moisture that can cause the flooring to deform again.

3. **Color Difference Handling**:

   * Color variation in solid wood flooring is normal. If there are high requirements for color consistency, pre-sorting can be done, and a gradual transition method can be adopted during installation to reduce visual abruptness.

### Post-Installation Maintenance

1. **Maintaining Dryness**:

   * The flooring should be kept dry, avoiding prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, or continuous direct air conditioning.
   * If water or other liquids are spilled on the flooring, they should be wiped up promptly to avoid moisture absorption.

2. **Regular Maintenance**:

   * The flooring should be regularly waxed and polished to maintain its shine and extend its lifespan.
   * Before waxing, moisture and stains should be wiped clean, with waxing recommended once a month or every two months.

3. **Avoiding Damage**:

   * Sharp objects and heavy items should be avoided from hitting or dragging across the flooring surface to prevent scratches or damage.
   * Furniture should be lifted when moving to avoid dragging on the flooring.
