I. Preparing Cleaning Tools and Materials

  1. Mop or Cloth: Choose a soft, absorbent mop or cloth, avoiding rough or sharp tools that could scratch the floor.
  2. Cleaning Solution: Various mild cleaning solutions can be used, such as rice water, diluted vinegar solution (vinegar mixed with water in a 1:20 ratio), soapy water (not too wet), or specialized wooden floor cleaners that are maple-friendly.
  3. Bucket or Spray Bottle: For holding the cleaning solution.
  4. Dry Cloth or Absorbent Paper: For wiping away excess water and cleaner residue.

II. Cleaning Steps

  1. Dusting: First, use a vacuum cleaner or soft dry cloth to remove dust and debris from the floor.
  2. Wet Mopping: Pour the prepared cleaning solution into a bucket or spray bottle, dip the mop or cloth into it, and gently wipe the floor. Ensure the mop or cloth is damp but not soaking wet to prevent water from seeping into the floor and causing swelling.
  3. Wiping: Use another dry cloth or absorbent paper to wipe away excess water and cleaner residue.
  4. Drying: Ensure the floor is completely dry to avoid water marks or mold growth. Use a fan or air conditioner to accelerate the drying process.

III. Handling Stubborn Stains

  1. Using Rice Water: Soak a cloth in rice water, wring it out, and gently wipe away stubborn stains. Then wipe clean and let dry.
  2. Expired Milk with Vinegar: Mix expired milk with water in a 1:2 ratio, dip a mop into it, and mop the floor. This is effective for stubborn stains. A small amount of vinegar can also be added to enhance stain removal.
  3. Salt: For oil stains or other stubborn stains, sprinkle some salt on the stain, then wipe with a damp cloth. Finally, wipe clean and let dry.

IV. Precautions

  1. Avoid Using Strong Acid or Alkali Cleaners: These cleaners may corrode the floor surface, causing discoloration or damage.
  2. Regular Waxing: To maintain the gloss and extend the lifespan of maple wood flooring, it is recommended to wax the floor annually. Before waxing, ensure the floor is completely dry and dust-free.
  3. Maintain Appropriate Indoor Humidity: Use a dehumidifier or humidifier to regulate air humidity to prevent the floor from swelling due to moisture or cracking due to dryness.

V. Additional Suggestions

  1. Use Floor Protectors: Place floor protectors under furniture to reduce wear and scratches on the floor.
  2. Regularly Replace Cleaning Tools: Replace mops or cloths regularly to avoid bacteria growth and floor contamination.
