I. First, cleaning and polishing

Clean the floor: Use a vacuum cleaner or mop to thoroughly clean the wood floor, ensuring that the surface is clean and free of dust, dirt or debris.

Sanding the floor:

Use a floor retreader or sandpaper machine to sand the floor to remove old coatings, stains and worn parts. The grinding depth is usually about 1 to 2 mm.

Use sandpaper of different thickness (such as 40 mesh, 80 mesh, 120 mesh, etc.) for multiple sanding to ensure smooth and even floor surface. After each sanding, it is necessary to clean up the sand and dust generated.

II. scraping putty and repair

Scraping putty: On the polished floor, evenly apply the special putty matching with the floor paint to level the floor surface. After the putty is dried naturally, remove the putty in the corner gaps between the floors, and use wood chip mixed putty to re-seal the edge.

Repair cracks: If the floor has cracks or grooves, it should be filled with a wood filler that matches the color of the floor. Once the filler is dry, sand the floor again to smooth the filler.

III. apply primer and top paint

Brush primer: After the putty is completely dry, apply primer. The primer enhances the adhesion and uniformity of the floor and provides a foundation for subsequent topcoat applications. For solid wood floors, due to the natural texture, the color cannot be changed, but the depth of the color can be adjusted.

Brush the top coat: After the primer is completely dry, apply the top coat. It is recommended to use environmentally friendly water-based paint, which has no odor and can effectively shorten the decoration time. When applying the topcoat, ensure that it is uniform and without missing. If you need a smoother finish, you can sandpaper the finish after it has dried and apply a second coat of paint.

IV. waxing and polishing

Waxing: After the topcoat has completely dried, wax the refurbished floor. Waxing protects floor surfaces, enhances gloss, and extends service life.

Polishing: Use a polishing machine or soft cloth to polish the waxed floor to make the surface of the floor more smooth and bright.

V. Precautions

Floor thickness: Only flooring with a surface thickness of more than 4 mm is suitable for renovation. Because part of the thickness will be worn off during the grinding process, too thin the floor is easy to damage the middle layer, affecting the service life.

Floor condition: If the floor has been severely damaged, mildewed or deformed, it is not suitable for renovation. In addition, the laminate floor can not be refurbished, because its surface has a wear layer, renovation will destroy this wear layer, aggravate the aging of the floor.

Professional construction: In order to ensure the quality of renovation, it is recommended to ask a professional renovation home improvement company or cleaning company to be responsible for the wood floor renovation project. They have the professional tools and extensive experience to ensure that the refurbishment results are even better.
