The ideal is plump, the reality is bony. Avoid these common mistakes for a hassle-free choice.

• Pitfall 1: Blindly Pursuing Precious Species

  • More expensive wood isn't always better. While teak, walnut are excellent, common species like oak (white/red), maple, beech are stable, cost-effective, and excellent choices. Stability, finish quality, and installation matter more than the species itself.

• Pitfall 2: Overly Worrying About Color Variation

  • Color and grain variation are the ID card of natural wood, embodying its beauty and vitality. Slight variations create a dynamic, lived-in space. Seeking perfect uniformity leads to a fake, printed look (laminate excepted).

• Pitfall 3: Equating "Thick" with "Good"

  • Thickness affects feel and price but isn't the only metric. An 8mm high-quality laminate may be far more durable than a 12mm low-quality one. For UFH, overly thick planks hinder heat transfer. Consider density, lock strength, wear layer thickness, and finish quality comprehensively.

• Pitfall 4: Ignoring Eco-Standards

  • Never just take a seller's word on "eco-friendly." Demand official test reports. Check formaldehyde emission levels meet (at least) the mandatory national standard (E1 is the baseline), preferring higher E0 or ENF levels. This is a core health issue.

• Pitfall 5: Prioritizing Product Over Installation

  • "30% product, 70% installation" is the golden rule. The most expensive floor will fail with poor installation (warping, squeaking, gaps). Ensure certified brand installers or highly experienced professionals handle the job.

• Pitfall 6: Confusing Small Sample with Full Installation Effect

  • A small sample's color/grain looks drastically different when installed across a room. Always get large samples, place them on the floor, and view them under different lighting conditions (daylight, artificial light).

• Pitfall 7: Overlooking Long-Term Maintenance Costs

  • Solid and engineered floors need periodic waxing/oiling; delicate finishes (high gloss) show scratches more than matte. Consider your willingness to invest time and effort in upkeep before choosing.
