Many people are confused by the classification of "solid wood flooring" when decorating. Pure solid wood, multi-layer solid wood and three-layer solid wood all have the word "solid wood", but their prices and performance are very different. Choosing the wrong one will not only cost money, but also affect the later living experience. Today, we will thoroughly explain these three types of flooring to help you choose accurately according to your own situation.
Pure solid wood flooring: The purest natural texture, processed from a single piece of natural wood without any splicing, is the "original form" of solid wood flooring. Its advantages are warm and elastic foot feel, the best environmental protection, almost no formaldehyde emission, unique natural texture, and it can be sanded and renovated multiple times after wear, with a service life of decades. Its disadvantages are also obvious: extremely poor stability, great influence by temperature and humidity changes, easy to crack and warp, afraid of water and moisture, cannot be used in bathrooms and kitchens, requires regular waxing and maintenance, and the price is high, with high-quality wood species often costing thousands of yuan per square meter. It is suitable for families with sufficient budget, pursuit of natural texture, dry home environment and time for maintenance.
Multi-layer solid wood flooring: Composed of multiple layers of veneer pressed vertically and horizontally, with a layer of solid wood veneer on the surface, its structure is similar to a "deck". Its advantages are far better stability than pure solid wood. The crisscross structure offsets the internal stress of the wood, making it not easy to deform. The foot feel is close to pure solid wood, the price is moderate, about half cheaper than pure solid wood. When the thickness of the wood veneer is ≥2mm, it can be sanded and renovated 1-2 times, suitable for families with underfloor heating. Its disadvantages are that the environmental protection depends on the base material and glue. Inferior products are prone to excessive formaldehyde emission, and too thin wood veneer cannot be renovated. It is also afraid of water, and long-term water immersion will cause delamination and bulging. It is suitable for ordinary families who want the foot feel of solid wood, have a limited budget and have underfloor heating at home.
Three-layer solid wood flooring: Composed of three layers of crisscross pressed solid wood veneer (surface layer), solid wood skeleton (middle layer) and solid wood veneer (bottom layer). Its advantages are the best stability, almost no deformation, and it is the most suitable type for underfloor heating among all solid wood flooring. It has a comfortable and elastic foot feel, good environmental protection, and uses less glue than multi-layer solid wood. Its disadvantages are high price, close to mid-to-high-end pure solid wood flooring, the surface wood veneer cannot be renovated after wear, there are many counterfeit products on the market, and many businesses pass off "new three-layer" with density board in the middle layer as pure three-layer.
Summary: Choose multi-layer solid wood if the budget is limited, choose three-layer solid wood if pursuing extreme stability, and choose pure solid wood if you prefer natural texture and have sufficient budget. Combining your own needs and living habits is the most reliable choice.
