Although solid wood flooring has an outstanding texture, it is also relatively "delicate" and needs regular maintenance to maintain its luster and avoid deformation and cracking. Many people think that maintenance is troublesome, but in fact, as long as you master the correct method and take simple daily care, you can keep the solid wood flooring looking new for a long time and extend its service life. The following are the core points of daily and seasonal maintenance of solid wood flooring, which even beginners can easily master.
1. Daily Maintenance: Do a good job in cleaning, moisture-proof and scratch-proof. For cleaning, wipe with a wrung cotton mop, avoid soaking with a lot of water to prevent the flooring from getting damp; for stubborn stains, wipe with a neutral cleaning solvent, then wipe clean with a wrung mop. Do not use acid, alkaline solvents or organic solvents such as gasoline, so as not to corrode the paint surface; avoid hard objects such as heavy metal sharp tools, glass and ceramic chips, and shoe nails scratching the flooring. Do not drag furniture on the flooring when moving it, and you can put soft pads under the furniture feet; do not place open flames or high-power electric heaters on the flooring, avoid long-term exposure to the sun, to prevent paint aging and flooring cracking.
2. Seasonal Maintenance: Adapt to seasonal changes and adjust temperature and humidity. Spring (Returning, a period of high humidity in southern China): Open windows for ventilation more often to keep indoor air circulation, and use a dehumidifier to reduce humidity to avoid the flooring getting damp and bulging; Summer: Avoid direct air conditioning blowing on the flooring, and you can put a non-slip mat under the air conditioner to prevent local dry cracking of the flooring. At the same time, open windows for ventilation regularly to balance indoor humidity; Autumn: The air is dry, and you can use a humidifier to control the indoor humidity at 40%-60% to avoid gaps in the flooring due to dry shrinkage; Winter: When turning on the underfloor heating, increase the temperature gradually, 5-10℃ per day, avoid sudden cold and heat, and prevent the flooring from deforming due to excessive temperature difference. Open windows for ventilation 1-2 times a day to keep air circulation, and avoid placing too cold or too hot objects on the flooring.
3. Regular Maintenance: Regular waxing and wear repair. It is recommended to wax and maintain twice a year. Before waxing, wipe the flooring clean, and after it is completely dry, apply a layer of floor wax evenly. After it is slightly dry, wipe it bright with a soft cloth, which can not only protect the paint surface, but also enhance the luster of the flooring; if there are slight scratches on the flooring surface, you can use a special repair wax to fill them. For severe scratches, you need to ask professional personnel to sand and repair them; for renewable pure solid wood and multi-layer solid wood flooring, you can sand and renovate them every 5-8 years to restore the original appearance of the flooring.
4. Emergency Handling: Deal with sudden situations to reduce damage. If the flooring is accidentally flooded on a large area, drain the water immediately, absorb the surface water with a dry towel, open the windows to dry naturally, and never dry it with an electric heater or expose it to the sun to avoid flooring deformation; if the flooring has slight bulging, you can first move the furniture, open the windows for ventilation, and most of them can recover by themselves after the humidity is balanced. For severe bulging, you need to ask professional personnel to handle it; if the flooring has abnormal noise, you can check whether the wooden keel is loose and reinforce it in time to avoid the abnormal noise from worsening.
