New National Environmental Standard for Wood Flooring – E0 Level Is No Longer "Optional"

On 1 June 2025, the national mandatory standard GB 18580‑2025 "Limit of formaldehyde emission of wood‑based panels and their products for interior decoration and furnishing" came into effect, marking a historic upgrade in the environmental standards for wood flooring. The new regulation stipulates: wood flooring products sold directly to consumers must meet the E0 level (≤0.050 mg/m³) for formaldehyde emission; while the wood‑based panels used as their substrates must reach the E1 level (≤0.124 mg/m³). This means that the E0 rating, once considered a "bonus" feature of premium brands, is now a mandatory market entry requirement for all wood flooring.

This change is a major benefit for consumers. In the past, E0 was only a marketing selling point for a few high‑end brands; now it is a legal obligation for all products. When buying wood flooring, you need only check whether the product certificate and test report show the standard number "GB 18580‑2025" and the "E₀" mark to confirm compliance. The new standard also shortens the testing cycle by at least 5 days, improving efficiency and accelerating the circulation of compliant products.

Of course, E0 is only the "passing line". For families with pregnant women, infants, or allergy sufferers, the higher ENF grade (≤0.025 mg/m³) is still recommended. The introduction of the new standard means that environmental protection is no longer a "choice" but a "mandatory answer". When buying wood flooring, looking for the new national standard is the most direct way to protect your family's health.
